Design Wall Monday #14

Do people give you bags full of either cut off corners, or sewn HST's that look something like this? Someone (Marjorie fessed up!) gave me this bag at retreat and I have had such fun playing with these as a leader/ender project.
First I pressed them all and squared them up to 2" HST's. Then I started sewing them into pinwheel blocks (on the right), but made a couple of blocks incorrectly including some that ended up to be "broken dishes" and one other unusual variation (bottom of the right hand column).
Then I saw Julie's gorgeous project - click here, and decided that "broken dishes" was the way to go. The blocks in the right hand column will now be ripped apart and resewn.
Here is a photo of my design wall today playing with some possible layouts.
What do you think? Any suggestions?

Those little ones I always toss, I know what a waste!!! I just know I would never do anything with them. So nice you are using these up.

I had so much fun with an exchange with these little squares. Check out friendship triangles by Editya Sitar for inspiration. I like the broken dishes layout. Nice job rescuing such adorable little squares!

I love the them all, but the one on the left is my favorite. What fun!!

I really like the one on the right the best. I wish I would be smart enough to use up those cut ends.

I like the first one with the neutral colored centers. Love the color scheme BTW.

Wonderful! I like the one on the right -- maybe because I have an antique quilt top that uses that layout. It's a classic! I save all my extra HST's -- just need to find the time to press and square 'em up!

How lucky are you!!! Your wall looks so fun. Personally, I like the layout on the left best.

I would have been the person giving you the pieces instead of doing something creative like you are doing.

No one has ever given me any HSTs but I have been collecting some in a basket since the beginning of the year. Someday, when the basket overflows, a quilt will magically come out of the basket. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love the broken dishes pattern. Looking good!

The broken dishes pattern is one of my favorites. I have several bags of 'cut a-ways' Have used them for 1 doll quilt and 1 zipper bag....All of mine are very small, about 1.5 finished or smaller. Your triangles are looking great.

I ditto Gari. But, I too have bags of triangles. Most of my cut offs are too small to do much with. But I have made a couple of doll quilts with them. You are inspiring me. I too like the first column...

I've been playing with broken dishes blocks since I saw Julie's post too! Some red and white leftovers from a Pineapple Blossom quilt. I really like the setting in the first colum and am going to copy that! I'm making a runner with mine.

If it's bigger than two inches square, I keep it. Though I don't know why -- I've never done anything with any of them!! Perhaps I should send them to you!?!?! :)

They are all great, but I think I like the third column best. Love your new header photo, too!

What fun. Any of those lay outs will be great. I am partial to the one on the left.

You are brave to take on all of those HSTs! They look fantastic.

Hard to choose, I like all the layouts!

After following the link, I really like the broken dishes alternated with solid squares, it rally lets the pattern stand out.

Sometimes I think I'm wearing a sign on my back says "Give your leftovers to Vivian." They show up at my desk when I'm at weekend quilting. They end up under my chair at quilt guild meetings. I have more of those HST pairs that you can imagine.
Your plans are encouraging. I definitely need to keep them, not throw them.
The alternating layout of broken dishes with the solid squares that Julie did is great. That would be my choice.

I'd vote for the first setting option. Will be great to see what you end up with.
